Apple confirms iPhone cellular issue, admits affected units can’t be fixed
Apple has officially acknowledged a cellular connectivity issue affecting some iPhone 18 Pro Max devices on AT&T’s network. Several users reported that their phones were unable to make calls, send text messages, or access mobile data, even when showing strong 5G signal strength.
The issue was first highlighted by AT&T, which warned customers about the problem and advised them to immediately update their devices to iOS 27.0.1. AT&T sent alerts to affected customers, stating that some iPhone 18 Pro Max units could fail to complete calls, texts, or data connections, including emergency 911 calls.

Apple has now confirmed the issue, but the recommended software update has raised concerns because many affected users claim that installing iOS 27.0.1 did not resolve the problem. Apple’s official release notes also do not specifically mention a fix for this cellular issue.
Reports of the problem began appearing in mid-September, with users describing random service drops, SOS mode activation, and difficulties making or receiving calls despite having full network bars. Some customers reported that their phones would work normally on Wi-Fi but lose cellular functionality completely.
For users whose iPhone 18 Pro Max is already affected, Apple’s current solution may require replacing the device, while future software updates are expected to prevent new units from experiencing the same issue.
