Apple now lets you record your iPhone screen in high-res
The upcoming iOS 26 update brings a major upgrade for iPhone and iPad users—Apple now lets you record your iPhone screen in high-res, finally unlocking the full resolution supported by each device. Until now, recordings were capped at 1,920 pixels, a limitation set back in 2017 with iOS 11. This meant that even on modern devices like the iPhone 16 Pro Max or the latest iPad models, users couldn’t fully utilize their displays’ higher resolutions. With iOS 26, Apple is finally removing this restriction, allowing for sharper, professional-grade recordings perfect for work presentations, tutorials, or sharing on social media.
According to reports from 9to5Mac, Apple has also managed to implement this improvement without dramatically increasing file sizes. For example, a 12-second screen recording at maximum resolution was only about 5.3MB larger than the same clip recorded on earlier beta versions of iOS 26. This balance between higher quality and manageable file sizes makes the feature practical for everyday users who rely on screen recording but don’t want their storage overwhelmed.
While Apple hasn’t officially announced the release date for iOS 26, it is expected to arrive around September 16, shortly after the launch of the iPhone 17. Those eager to try the upgrade sooner can access it via the iOS 26 public beta by heading to Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates. And screen recording isn’t the only improvement coming—users can also look forward to a new “liquid glass” transparent visual effect, a redesigned Photos app, and more intuitive tools for one-handed photography.
