Apple may delay standard iPhone 18 until 2027
Apple is still expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro and
iPhone 18 Pro Max in fall 2026, maintaining its traditional September launch
window, according to industry sources. However, the regular iPhone 18 may be
delayed, contradicting earlier rumors that suggested a spring 2026 release. For
over a decade, Apple has typically launched all its main iPhone models
simultaneously, with the only major exception occurring in 2020 when the iPhone
12 series was briefly delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, though it was still
announced in September. New reports now suggest Apple is planning to split
future iPhone launches into two phases, releasing premium, higher-margin
devices first and introducing standard or lower-cost models several months
later.

If this strategy moves forward, the standard iPhone 18 could
arrive in spring 2027, potentially alongside a new iPhone 18e and the
second-generation iPhone Air. Analysts believe this shift may align with
Apple’s broader hardware roadmap, including the widely rumored debut of its
first foldable iPhone in fall 2026, allowing Apple to prioritize flagship and
experimental models while optimizing supply chains and early revenue. However,
the approach carries risks, as delaying more affordable models could frustrate
customers who prefer standard iPhones, pushing them to either upgrade to
pricier Pro models or delay purchases altogether. With most users upgrading
every few years, the long-term impact on demand remains uncertain.
